A young boy, Ryunosuke Ibuki, collapses in the mountains. A haughty man named Kamo Serizawa appears and asks him, "Do you want to live?" Ryunosuke nods in his dying moments and is taken to Kyoto by Serizawa. From there, the fates of Ryunosuke and the "Rōshi-gumi" intertwine.
